Do not be a traitor to yourself and do not destroy what God has entrusted to you, calling it: ﴿فِطْرَةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا.﴾. This act of yours, according to a tradition, will cause more harm to your faith than the harm done by two wolves that attack a herd of sheep without a shepherd from both sides. Hence, if we are sincere in our faith in God, it is in itself a favor bestowed upon us by God. This weakness in iman causes a person to ignore the blessings and rewards of the Hereafter, and increases a person's desire for fame and prestige in this world. At the first step an individual demonstrates his piety and virtuous deeds. There are two probable interpretations of this hadith. Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in hadith: “Shall I not inform you of what I fear for you more than the Masih ad-Dajjal? Riya' in worship means that one worships not for God, but intends to show off. The Devil possesses the knowledge of all these things more than I and you or any other individual, but still he is an unbeliever. The heart of the true believer (mu’min) lies between two fingers of God, that He may turn it whatever way He pleases. Abstain from everything that resembles riya’ and simulation, however virtuous it may appear to be. This fact is confirmed by a tradition mentioned in al-Kafi, narrated by ‘Ali ibn Salim: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِاللهِ، عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ اللهُ، عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: أَنَا خَيْرُ شَرِيكٍ؛ مَنْ أَشْرَكَ مَعِيَ غَيْرِي فِي عَمَلٍ عَمِلَهُ لَمْ أَقْبَلْهُ إِلا مَا كَانَ لِي خَالِصاً.
